Differences between free and paid-for use of the Qedoc software

For the most part, there are very few differences. This is because we really give away just about every important feature to free users. The differences primarily involve features which would compromise the sharing requirement attached to free use.
  • The most important advantage of buying is that you can distribute your modules without getting them unlocked first by us. Unlocking is there for free users as a means of enforcing sharing. Freedom from the unlocking process has a number of further advantages.
    • No waiting around for us to unlock submitted modules. We try to be quick, but even a few hours can be annoying in some cases.
    • No need to conform to the acceptable use guidelines; for example, you can create quizzes about your company products, your organisation's staff, or issues specific to your school that outsiders wouldn't know about.
    • You can create quizzes in languages we can't understand.
  • A number of security features become available in the Qedoc Quiz Maker.
    • Modules can have an author password attached to lock them from other authors. This password protects modules against editing and viewing in the Qedoc Quiz Maker (but not against viewing in the Qedoc Quiz Player).
    • Modules can have a player password attached to lock them from students until you give them the password. This password protects against viewing in the Qedoc Quiz Player (but not against editing and viewing in the Qedoc Quiz Maker).
    • Verification codes can be attached as part of examination processes.
  • Greater licencing freedom. Greater licencing power.
    • You can sell modules and distribute them commercially.
    • You can define your own licences for educational content.
    • You can copy-protect modules. Modules can be opened by sending your customers unique 16-digit codes which are WWW-authenticated to ensure single use only and which create hardware locks. This provides a high level of assurance and copyright-protection for commercially sold modules.
  • Extra features
    • Define your own backgrounds.
